Goshen launches UPSL Pro Soccer Team

Goshen City Football Club is proud to announce it has joined the United Premier Soccer League as a new league member, kicking off this 2023 spring season.

Goshen City FC joins the UPSL Pro Premier Midwest Central Conference, with Goshen College as its home venue.

After receiving over 100 tryout applications, the team has completed tryouts and is now gearing up for its first match against Isthmus City on April 8th in Wisconsin. GCFC’s first home game will be against Panathinaikos Chicago on May 6th at 7 pm at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

“I started this project in the spring of 2022 as a college student,” Club Founder Henrique Castelhano Eichenberger said. ´´My goal is to enhance the love for soccer in the younger generation. We will offer free admission to kids under 12 and create an engaging experience for young fans by allowing them to walk with players before every home game and interact with our team.´´

Castelhano Eichenberger, 24, was born and raised in Sao Paulo Brazil and graduated from Goshen College in 2022, where he got a business degree and where he captained the soccer club for the past three years.

It is also where he met his wife, Paige Eichenberger, a GC graduate, and former soccer player.

“I have lived in Goshen, Indiana, for four years, and I consider this city my home,” he said. “I just got married last October here in Goshen, and I couldn’t be happier to start our family here in this town!”

Goshen City’s first season will be led by Head Coach Tyler Born, a former player for Goshen High School and Goshen College.

Tyler shared his enthusiasm, stating “I am very excited to be working alongside Henrique on this project. What he has done to build the club, and to trust me to help lead the team, I am very thankful for this opportunity. I found love playing this sport here in Goshen, and we hope to help the younger generation find the same.”

Goshen City FC launches with support from several companies and institutions, including InterCambio Express, Everence, Interra, the City of Goshen, Goshen College, Goshen Stars, and the Goshen Soccer Academy.
