Letter of Support for Sandra Rodriguez-McMasters

Twenty-five years ago Sandra Rodriguez-McMasters chose Goshen as the community where she and her future family would live out the American Dream. She immediately went to work in a factory and soon after began teaching Sunday school at St. John’s. Her passion for this community led her to also volunteer with the Community Coalition for Immigration Reform, to provide leadership for the Reith Park Neighborhood Association, and to join Goshen’s Community Relations Commission. When Sandra’s two daughters were old enough, she enrolled them in Goshen Community Schools and watched them thrive as students, musicians, and athletes.

Recognizing Goshen’s need for bilingual social workers, Sandra attended Goshen College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She was able to complete internships in our local schools and in social service agencies like The Window and Goshen Interfaith Hospitality Network (now First Light Mission). Recently Sandra graduated from Loyola University where she earned her Master’s degree; she is now working as an adolescent therapist at Oaklawn.

But Sandra wants to give back even more to the community that has welcomed her, so she is running for an at-large seat on Goshen’s City Council. Sandra is uniquely qualified to fill this role. The wisdom she has gained in her pursuit of the American Dream and in her service to this community is just what Goshen needs to continue growing as a city that serves all of its residents. A vote for Sandra Rodriguez-McMasters is a vote for a thriving Goshen.
